1. Start with a blank ebony saddle; arched to the proper radius and lightly notched for the
correct string spacing.
2. Find the correct intonation point. Use a bent piece of wire or a paper clip and slide it
until both the open note and the octave are the same. Mark the correct position with a scribe
or sharp pencil. Repeat for all 6 strings.
3. Now remove the saddle and file away the excess leaving about 1/16" at the intonation
point you just marked. I used a narrow file for a long time, but the spindle sander works great
too. Sand the finished saddle to 320 and put a little fingerboard oil on it.
4. Back on the guitar, you may have to deepen the string notches for the bass strings and
adjust the individual string heights a little. Now the guitar will really play in tune with
better sustain and tone.
